Jeffrey Malcolm Maxey

Jeffrey Malcolm Maxey began studying organized body movement at age 4 with gymnastics. In 1996, he developed an affinity to dance and pursued formal jazz, modern, hip-hop, and social dance training. He studied jazz and hip-hop at Sierra Dance Institute in Grass Valley where he later instructed lindy hop swing lessons.

Jeff learned modern and lyrical jazz techniques at the American Academy of Dance in San Luis Obispo, CA. He improved upon his skills at Velocity Dance Center and Spectrum Dance Theater in Seattle, WA, and through workshops with the University of Puget Sound theater department in Tacoma, WA where he taught charleston, east-coast, and lindy-hop swing dancing. Living in the Northwest, he also attended ballet classes and choreographed for the Repertory Dance Group in Tacoma.

Moving to Chicago, IL he attended Joel Hall Dance Center for additional hip-hop, jazz, and ballet. Paramount to other dance education, Jeff gained his classical ballet technique under scholarship at The San Francisco Academy of Ballet, where he appeared in a 2001 Nutcracker performance. He trained extensively under the preceptorship of Zory Karah who is most proudly known for his role in the Israeli Ballet, and under Richard Gibson, former headmaster of the Joffrey Ballet.

Jeff accompanies his precise and fine dance training outdoors as an avid mountain biker, rock climber, and snow boarder. He practices ashtanga, bikram, and kundalini yoga to center the body and focus the mind. Jeff adds to his repertoire of accomplished dance forms: swing, lindy-hop, blues, salsa, acro yoga, capoiera, and contact improvisation.
