Marni Marshall
Marni Marshall studied dance and gymnastics as a child in Oregon and California. The seeds for her fascination with modern dance were planted when she saw the PBS show "Live From Off Center" in the 80s. This show presented fresh edgy modern dance works by various choreographers. The effect was rapturous.
In her teens, she studied ballet with Dorthy Percival in Stockton, California. After a long hiatus, she rededicated herself to dance after finding a love for modern dance through Sierra College, taught by Lovie Bucknell, with whom she has taken classes and worked with since 1998. Marni has been a co-director of The Movement Alliance since it’s formation in 2002. She has been influenced by collaborators Marti Cate and Marianne Reagan and other local dance teachers, Sarah Keller and Natina Pistone. Visiting guest dance teachers Laurie Belilove and Company, Alison Clancy and many others have influenced her work as well.
Marni has been involved with AirAligned for four years, dancing and learning aerial dance with Tresa Honaker. She is also greatly pleased to have danced and worked with the Glass Bead Players, who gave her a chance to learn to love contact improvisation and authentic movement.
She attended the Joe Goode Performance Group workshop with Lovie Bucknell, a group she greatly admires for their wonderful work in dance theatre, as well as their group dynamics. She has been inspired to take classes with Elizabeth Wiegel and Pamela Trokanski and various teachers at San Francisco Dance Center. Marni has her B.A. in Studio Art with a minor in dance from Sacramento State.
